Ok, ok -- so many wonderful jewelry photographers kept recommending a light box. Their photos were so pretty so I knew this must be done.

First I selected a box - oh what a lovely box!! I was saving this box (yes I have a box collection that I periodically dispose of via FreeCycle...)
WHY was I saving this box?? Well just *look* at it! Look at the top row middle pic - see the reinforced, double wall sides of this box? Perfect for a light box though since most of three sides would be cut out.
Found a few neat little tutorials online how to make a box. However, the cut lines were not straight and that wouldn't do for me so I pulled out my square to be sure it was all straight. Some had three sides cutout and others had the back cutout too. I opted not to cut out the back since it'll be covered by poster board anyway and I want to be sure it's sturdy and lasts a long time.
Top row, right I used the flap and cut that out too providing further reinforcement. Tissue paper on the three sides, poster board tucked into the box.
Voila! (there's that word again - I use that alot in my How To blogs... :P )

Great tutorial. A lightbox makes all the difference. I wimped out and bought an inexpensive one.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's much sturdier and will last longer!
