Pic of how to use hair stick included but don't look at my gray hair! :) To use stick, pull hair into low ponytail, coil hair into french twist, tuck in loose ends of hair, insert stick with pointed tip pointing upwards into the top of the coil, reverse direction of the stick bringing into a downwards direction and bring tip of stick behind coil to lock hair in place.
When using a single stick to hold hair in place the key is a tight coil. It took me a while to get the hang of inserting the stick with the top towards the floor and the point towards the ceiling but that's what helps pull the hair and lock it into place. Get that angle right and it's a snap! (See pic below)

At my Designed by Dee jewelry shop you find unique, creative handmade beaded jewelry / homemade beaded jewellery. Semi precious stone necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Glass bead bookmarks and wine tags. My Designed by Dee card shop is dedicated to my unending love of paper! [Edited 7/26] Ok, here's a little amateur video on how to use it. Admittedly the twist didn't come as tight as I'd have liked but wanted to illustrate the idea. I'll have to reshoot and edit this later, but wanted to at least get this up for those viewing this blog this morning...

These look amazing. But I for one would not know how to use them. Do you think you could include a picture of one in someone's hair in your item listing for the hair challenged (like me).
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute. I'd love to see how they are used too. I think my hair would be long enough to wear one.
ReplyDeleteOk - updated post and listing with a most embarrassing pic of my gray hair!! (Took it when I took the others but wasn't sure anyone would want to see my rats nest but it is what it is - I like it and if anyone else doesn't just look away in horror! :P )
ReplyDeleteI have very long hair and have been wanting to use hair sticks, but never knew how! Thanks so much for this tutorial and I'll be checking your Etsy when I'm ready to try it out myself!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tutorial....I've used some like this before and they work very well in my long hair, which looks a lot like your grey hair :-) Off to your shop now.
ReplyDeleteI love using hair sticks - they are easier to use than you might think. When I am in a hurry and my hair is annoying me, I've used whatever is handy to put it up (chopsticks, pencils, crochet hooks). Dee's hair sticks are much more stylish, though :)
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute! And I thought I was going to hear your voice on the video! =0)- I was just wondering if I would conk myself often in the head with the bead haha
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I've never had much success with things like that keeping my hair up =/ Don't know if it is to heavy or what!
Hadn't been by to visit in awhile! So now I'm caught up! =)

:P Well glad you all liked my little tutorial video despite my gray (or is it silver?) and crack me up to use chop sticks - better than a pencil I suppose!
ReplyDeleteAZ - those are my parrots in the background. Good the window was shut!
